Mark has a holistic approach to health and longevity. Not only are ancient health and wellness techniques and breathing used, but also food cures, supplement use, lifestyle improvements.
Simply put, the basic aim of Chigong (or Qigong) is to increase health and longevity by maximising the oxygen in blood, increasing circulation and calming the mind. He works with the seasons with close regard to Dao teachings and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
There are many handouts and videos made for my students to keep them on the path of longevity.
We practise many Qigong movements to enhance our Longevity. Simply learning how to breathe well for example applying LONGEVITY BREATH – Using our deep, thorough, even, calm, slow, steady, flowing breathwork, will make a lot of difference to a longer life.
Here are some research papers scientifically proving that both tai chi and qi gong can have good benefit for your longevity.
One study from 2023 found that older adults who regularly practiced tai chi had a significantly higher “survival duration” than those who didn’t. While the study was conducted only on older men, it proved that at least in this case, it increased longevity and delayed death.
In another study it was noted that “Tai Chi practice has a beneficial effect on stress, perceived life expectancy, and self-esteem.” Specifically, people who regularly practiced tai chi had lower stress levels, longer life expectancy, and higher self-esteem and a sense of wellbeing.
Harvard Medical School states that tai chi (and, of course, qi gong) can provide a number of benefits, including better muscular strength, improved upper and lower body flexibility, increased stability and balance, and even enhanced aerobic condition.
A study of Qigong found that “Qigong caused significant improvement in processing speed and sustained attention, increased hippocampal volume, and reduced peripheralinterleukin-6 levels.” This was particularly important for older adults, who are at the greatest risk of cognitive decline.
Qigong is a very low-impact and low intensity form of movement and exercise. Anyone of any fitness level can incorporate into their week.
Mark has decades of experience with Chinese food cures and daily foods to enhance one’s health. Students can ask about what to eat if they need to better aspects of their wellbeing. I must state here that if you are sick, go to the doctor, we are talking about colds or low energy, not life-threatening illness.
Food cures also help with nagging health problems that are on-going for years, but we take a holistic approach and probably you need to change many aspects like food, lifestyle, exercise, and of course Qigong!\Basically, I discuss which foods are nutritious for the season we are in.
Here are some examples of handouts that you would receive for strengthening the organs associated with the winter:
The National Kidney Foundation, US has food info here: https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/superfoods
TCM has lots of foods too, but one needs a good practitioner’s help with this.
I love taking supplements. Some people say you pee most of them out, but if some of the vitamins we take stay in, then it’s worth it to me. I have done 100’s of hours of research, listened to many experts and personally find that taking supplements in the right way are helpful to my health and energy levels. During the lessons and through the handouts, I share this experience with my students.
I give info on herbs, spices, used in the traditional Chinese medicinal way, as well as powdered mushrooms and herbs that we can add to our food to enhance the brain or muscles or anything that you want to discuss. Just using essential oils can make a difference, e.g. for the respiratory system, heat some fir, pine, olblas or thyme oils, they help to clear the breathing airways.
This is a huge factor for your health and wellbeing. People who work at a desk, for example, will benefit hugely by getting up every hour and walking. There are factors in our lifestyle that can be detrimental to our sleep. Just changing some small things like what we eat, when we eat, even eating mindfully instead of in front of the telly (we all do it sometimes), will aid digestion, in turn improving our gut health, in turn improving our energy and much more.
Practising Qigong daily is another way to influence our lifestyle for the better. Marks regular lessons support self-discipline, because we need to become continually better at that to change habits that are destructive and replace them with good habits like going to bed on time. Qigong can help you shift stagnant or blocked energy patterns in your body so you can strengthen your immune and lymphatic systems. These systems are essential for you to recover faster from injuries, ward off colds, flu, premature aging, infections, and fatigue.

There are 5 main benefits you can gain from the practice of Qigong:
I have suffered from sinusitis for many years and have tried lots of lotions and potions to alleviate the symptoms and usually end up on antibiotics each winter. Now I don’t use anything other than face rubbing and and so far so good this winter, no medication, no headaches and no stuffy nose !!!
I’ve been learning Tai Chi now for a year and find the benefits have been growing over that time. My job is stressful and and regular practise of my tai chi has helped give me more energy in general and can really wake me up after a hectic day. Tai Chi has also helped my posture: I not only feel taller now, but my back problems have eased as well. Above all it has made me more aware of myself, my health and my energy potential!
I had fibromyalgia and crohn's disease.
After one lesson i slept soundly for the first time. After 7 lessons i feels amazing and lots of energy and has less pain. My golfing improved, too!
It gives me a chance to explain the basics of breathing and posture and start you on some self-healing exercise.
